Review: Wild West Pinball

13 08 2009

Wild West Pinball is a new take on the classic Pinball game, however, you won’t find it in any arcade store. It’ll be on your iPhone.

Wild West Pinball, as you may have guessed, is set in a western theme, the backdrop looks like a desert, with goldmines, traintracks, even Dirty Harry. Is it hard to play? No! All you have to do is tap on the left or right side of the iPhone’s screen if you want to control the flippers, just like you would press the buttons on the side of an actuall Pinball game in an arcade.

Wild West Pinball has many different ways to earn bonus points, you can ‘rob a bank’, ‘kill Dirty Harry’. and get a ‘goldmine’. All of these will earn you bigtime points, besides how long you can keep the ball in play. You only get four balls per game so use pay attention!

Wild West Pinball is Free and is in the iPhone App Store.

Wishing you happy gaming and the return of,

TwitterFon

17 03 2009

TwitterFon is an easy to use, you guessed it, Twitter client. Twitterfon has a simple UI and, in some places, a SMS-like interface for Direct Messages.

TwitterFon also has Twitter Search built right in, so you can search for topics.

Below are a few screenshots of TwitterFon.

Pandora

19 02 2009

Pandora is the well known web radio app based on the Music Genome Project. There iPhone application provided all the functions of the website:

1. You can create stations

2. You can edit station

3. You can skip songs

You also have the Quicklist option, which plays songs selected from all your stations.

Pandora is one of the best Radio apps out there for me (next to AOL Radio and Slacker) and I HIGHLY reccomend this app. You don’t need to create an account to listen to stations.

Pandora is free and is available in the Music section of the App Store.

FStream

FStream is a free music streaming application that allows you to play icecast streams on your iPhone. It supports formats like .m3u, aiff and more. You can also record the music stream you are listening too.

Fring

23 10 2008

Fring [link], is yet another Instant Messenger client for the iPhone/iPod touch. The biggest thing about fring is that it includes Skype support, something that MobileChat, Palringo, IM+ and Beejive don’t have.

But that is the only good thing about fring, It still has a long way to go if it wants to be the top free IM app in the App Store. Fring currently doesn’t allow you to to change your status, so as long as you are logged in, you are avaliable. Also, it will show contacts as online when they aren’t. The latest update was said to fix this, but so far, this is not true.

I would reccomend you go with Palringo for now, if you want a good IM client for the iPhone

FlyCast Updated

23 10 2008

FlyCast Mobile [link] was updated yesterday and it included some minor tweaks.

Twitxr

12 10 2008

Twixtr [link], is a Micro-blogging site like Twitter that is focused around sending pictures rather then just short status messages. Yes it does have the 140 caracter limit so in many ways it’s just like Twitter but far less popular.

The iPhone application has a simple interface with three options at the bottom of the screen so that you can view your profile or send a message/picture and change prefrences. The app does use the iPhone’s location based service. This cannot be turned off, it requires that you enter your current location if your location can’t be found. Of course you can deny the application to use the iPhone 3G’s GPS, but either way, you still must manually enter your location.

Twitxr is free and can be found in the Social Networking category of the App Store.

FlyCast Mobile

12 10 2008

FlyCast Mobile [link] is a internet radio application for the iPhone/iPod touch that brings together many different radio stations from .977 and 1.FM, it also covers local stations like the great KGO. I find that most of the sations are high quality. The app has a built-in internet connection tool to test your connection speed to tell if you can play EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi or video broadcasts. It also comes with a built-in web browser so you don’t have to leave the application to browse the web.

This application is free and is available in the Music category of the App Store.
